The Issue of environmentally friendly Garbage disposal by the Community on the Puruni Landing located in the Number Three Mining District , Region Seven , has been a consistent subject of special focus for the Administrative arm of Guyana Geological Mines Commission ,G.G.M.C., and the G.G.M.C. Administration of Mining District # 3, located on the Puruni Landing ,Region Seven.
Puruni Landing basically is an intransit location on the Trail , that connects " on land " , the middle Mazaruni area to the lower Mazaruni area in Region Seven , from the geographical locations of the " Pappy Show Landing " to the " Itaballi Landing " located in the lower Mazaruni area , next to the Township of Bartica .
The Puruni Landing due to it's unique geographical location , prevalently experiences the daily movement of Travellers between and around these areas on " land ", owing to the fact that travelling at times, along the treacherous rapids in the Mazaruni River from Itaballi Landing to the Pappy Show Landing has it's seasonal inconveniences and likewise negative effects on these Travellers supply efforts in satisfying the economical and commercial demands in bulk, for the middle Mazaruni area. Travellers would often utilise this only economical option of Road transportation for Goods in bulk quantity, even under very deplorable Road surface conditions.
The Puruni Landing itself also possesses numerous Business locations,Hotels and Restaurants, meaning that the integral auxiliary Service of efficient and effective Garbage Disposal is always under pressure.
The G.G.M.C., Office on the Puruni Landing even after previously making available Facilities for all to dispose of their Garbage, observed persons were still continuing to do so in a wreckless and dangerous manner , towards the environment. This type of activity then procreated and catalyzed an initiative by the local Administrators of G.G.M.C., on the Puruni Landing to engage their Mines and Environmental Divisions , to collaborate with the Environmental Protection Agency,EPA, and the Ministry of Communities towards identifying and putting in place an effective system to arrest the issue of wreckless Garbage Disposal ultimately ,and for it to be done in a more controlled and environmentally friendly manner.
During the month of June 2018,a relative physical assessment exercise was then conducted by all the relevant Stake Holders , where a 0.3 Acre dimension Site was then identified as being appropriate for a controlled Garbage Disposal Site,from that time to date, the G.G.M.C. Puruni Office has piloted further the preparation and availability now of this controlled Dump Site , that will facilitate further Five other Cells with the One now in current use,of the surface dimension of 60 Feet X 60 Feet X 20 Feet in depth , with a projected operational period of Five Years,during which the Office of G.G.M.C. Puruni Landing anticipates to collaborated with the Community on Puruni Landing in maintaining this Site in an Environmentally friendly manner during it's projected Five Years period of existence.
The pristine ambience of this controlled Dump Site Area' s appearance is also catered for with the placement also of a "Buffer Wall " on the new controlled Garbage disposal location
Prior to making this Facility available,the G.G.M.C. Office undertook a Public Awareness Exercise to alert Persons of the Site's availability, how to use it , and what to avoid doing with regards to Garbage disposal ,they also removed " eyesore " derelict Materials and Vehicle Shells from within the Community of Puruni to the new controlled Dump Site,and also provided a paved wooden Driveway directly to the first Cell for all to conveniently and comfortably use the Site .
The local Office of G.G.M.C., on the Puruni Landing would also periodically,in collaboration with the Puruni Landing Community, conduct " Fogging Exercises " to minimise on the Health Issues resulting from Mosquito borne diseases.
The Puruni Landing is also , still awaiting the realization of a healthy Water supply Source for the Community,a Police Outpost,a Health Outpost and now , the bridging of the Puruni River.The Community also needs constant guidance from the Health Sector Authorities especially in the area of Restaurant Services.
Recently the Digicel Telephone Company had put into operation Two Towers along the now deplorable Itaballi to Puruni Landing Road,one Tower is located at the Takatu Area and the other near to the Puruni Landing ,meaning that Persons are now only enjoying Telephone Calls from and to the Puruni Landing ,definitely the needs further for the Community on the Puruni Landing ,must also be put in place ,to address " on the spot " the Community's Social and Crime Issues also expediously.
